 Are you prepared to provide the best care?

  

The Alzheimer’s Association’s Foundations of Dementia Care training program is field-tested to help you expand your knowledge and strengthen your skills as a caregiver.  Our training program will provide your staff with the tools they need to provide compassionate, person-centered care to persons with dementia. 

Our training program features:

·        Interactive, hands-on training using role-play, film clips, and case studies

·        Person-centered care approaches for all stages of dementia

·        Practical, problem-solving techniques that your staff can use immediately

·        CEUs for nurses, social workers and long-term care administrators

February 19, 2009              About Dementia                                                           

·         Identify the symptoms of dementia.

·         Understand the impact of dementia on behavior and communication.

February 26, 2009              Learning to Lead                                                         

·        Identify the characteristics of a successful dementia care team.

·         Implement staff empowerment strategies to improve the quality of care.

 

March 5, 2009                      Enhancing Mealtime & Reducing Pain I                  

·         Draw on your knowledge of residents' needs and preferences to improve nutrition and hydration.

·         Increase your ability to recognize the spoken and unspoken signs of pain.

March 12, 2009                    Reducing Pain II & Making Connections                       

·         Discuss the elements of a complete pain report and learn strategies for responding to and preventing pain.

·         Deepen your understanding of the social needs of residents. 

·        Engage residents through meaningful activities and quality interactions.

March 26, 2009                    Understanding Wandering & Reducing Falls I        

·         Understand the role of wandering and exit-seeking behaviors in dementia. 

·         Develop strategies for preventing unsafe wandering.

·         Recognize the factors—both environmental and personal—that place a resident at risk of falls.                         

 

April 2, 2009                         Reducing Falls II & Restraint-Free Care                       

·         Practice identifying, monitoring, and removing fall hazards.

·         Learn techniques to prevent, reduce, and eliminate the use of physical restraints.
